Om jobbet

Are you ready to take the next step in your academic journey? As a doctoral student with us, you will work closely with leading researchers in a strong, international research environment, with access to advanced laboratory equipment and solid funding opportunities. You will be offered secure employment, high-quality supervision, and room to grow, both as a researcher and as a person.
The subject of Operations and Maintenance Engineering conducts research and education in operational reliability, asset management and risk management. The research team in Industrial AI & Intelligent Asset Management develops technologies, methodologies, and tools based on emerging technologies, such as industrial artificial intelligence (IAI) and digital technologies, for advanced analysis of complex technical systems.
The Department of Operations and Maintenance Engineering currently has approximately 50 staff members, who are part of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CENE) with about 430 staff members. To strengthen the research activities and academic expertise in industrial AI, e-maintenance, and cybersecurity, we are now seeking a PhD Student.
Subject description
Operation and Maintenance Engineering deals with the development of technologies to ensure high system dependability, effective maintenance processes and life cycle management of engineering assets.
Project description
The doctoral candidate will work on several projects primarily related to asset management and maintenance of railways, including infrastructure and rolling stock.
Duties
A doctoral position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a PhD student, you will be trained in scientific work through publishing scientific articles in journals and presenting at national and international conferences. You will also undertake mandatory and optional doctoral courses. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to experience the role of an educator. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides a fantastic opportunity to learn how to lead challenging development projects.
In modern railway and infrastructure management, the handling of technical assets and integrated logistical support (Engineering Asset Management - EAM and Integrated Logistics Support - ILS) is becoming increasingly important. These research areas aim to conduct research activities with a particular focus on optimising utilisation, maintenance, and lifecycle costs within railways, concerning infrastructure and rolling stock.
Furthermore, as a PhD student you will work within the research group for industrial AI and eMaintenance. In this position, you will also contribute to further developing our research concept and technological platform for 'AI Factory' and enhance the capacity of our 'eMaintenance LAB' laboratory.
Qualifications
Basic eligibility for doctoral studies is granted to those who have 1) obtained a degree at advanced level, 2) completed course requirements of at least 240 university credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level, or 3) in some other way within or outside the country acquired mainly equivalent knowledge. The university may grant an exemption from the basic eligibility requirement for an individual applicant if there are special reasons. Higher Education Ordinance 7:39 (2010:1064). See also LTU's local guidelines in the admission regulations for doctoral education.
Applicants must hold a Master of Science degree in maintenance and operations engineering, data science, computer science, engineering physics, or an equivalent field.
